LIFE HISTORY OF DR. PRATAPCHANDRA MAJUMDAR

Dr. P. C. Majumdar was born in Calcutta city around 1855. He got admission in Calcutta Medical College and completed his medical degree in 1878. For higher studies, he went to America and later he passed the exam of M.D. from USA. After coming back to India, he started practice successfully. He got married with the daughter of Dr. B.L. Bhaduri who was the famous Homoeopathic physician in that area. Dr. B.L. Bhaduri was also and allopathic physician but he was converted as Homoeopath by Dr. Salzar, who came from University of Vienna in 1867. When Dr. B.L. Bhaduri got chance, he also converted his son-in-law Dr. Majumdar as a Homoeopathic physician. After Dr. Sarkar, Dr. Salzar, Dr. Majumdar became a top ranking Homoeopath. If Dr. Sarkar enhanced the prestige of Homoeopathy. Dr. Majumdar popularized Homoeopathy among the people by his successful practice. This time one more name of Dr. D.N. Rai came in light of Homoeopathy and in 1881 Dr. Majumdar and Dr. D.N. Rai established ‘the Calcutta Medical college and hospital’. They maintained it up to the end of life. Dr. Majumdar wrote many books on Homoeopathy in Bengali and English languages. He was very much rich man in Calcutta city in last years of his life. He donated a lot of money for different institutes. He died on 22 nd October, 1922, leaving behind many Gems in the field of Homoeopathy.
CONTRIBUTION
- Calcutta Homoeopathic medical college was established by Dr. Majumdar and Dr. D.N. Rai.
- Dr. Majumdar edited Indian Homoeopathic review journal which is the second oldest Homoeopathic journal of India.
- Many books were written by Dr. Majumdar in Bengali and English languages.
